Arvind Kejriwal's Incarceration in Tihar Jail

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal finds himself in Tihar Jail, where he is reportedly lodged in close proximity to notable figures from the underworld, terrorism, and organized crime.

Unusual Neighbours  in Jail No. 2

Media reports suggest that Kejriwal's immediate neighbours in Tihar's Jail No. 2 include underworld figure Chhota Rajan, gangster Neeraj Bawana, and alleged terrorist Ziaur Rehman.

Background of Kejriwal's Cellmates

Chhota Rajan, once aligned with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, now counts him as a rival. Neeraj Bawana faces numerous charges related to murder and extortion, while Ziaur Rehman is linked to the Indian Mujahideen.

Conditions of Confinement

Kejriwal, confined to a modest cell measuring 14*8 feet, receives home-cooked meals due to his diabetic condition. He has been provided basic amenities such as a mattress, blankets, and pillows.

Legal Proceedings  and Petition

The Delhi High Court is scheduled to hear Kejriwal's petition challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate on April 3. In his plea, Kejriwal contests his custody and seeks interim relief.

ED's Allegations and Opposition

The Enforcement Directorate contends that Kejriwal played a central role in the alleged "excise scam," branding him as the "kingpin" and "key conspirator." The agency claims that Kejriwal deliberately defied multiple summonses for cooperation.

Claims of Misappropriated Funds

According to the ED, funds from the Delhi liquor case, amounting to approximately Rs. 45 crore, were allegedly utilized in the AAP's election campaign for the Goa Assembly elections in 2022, implicating the party as a significant beneficiary of the proceeds of crime.
