Health authorities are saying this rise is due to waning immunity within the population, and no emergence of more severe or transmissible variants.

In Singapore, the Health Ministry reported a 28% increase in Covid-19 cases, reaching around 14,200 in the week ending May 3.

Hospital admissions related to Covid-19 also climbed by about 30% during the same period.

Officials suggest that the surge is likely due to decreasing immunity levels among the public, highlighting the importance of staying up to date with vaccinations.

The virus has been detected in sewage water, serving as an early warning indicator of widespread community transmission.

Experts across the region believe that the resurgence may be driven by decreasing immunity levels among the public. As Covid-19 becomes endemic, waves of infections are expected to occur periodically.

The current spike in cases during the summer, a time when most viruses usually wane, highlights that Covid-19 remains highly transmissible even in warmer months.
