'Shooter Dadi' Chandro Tomar dies of Covid-19

Veteran sharpshooter Chandro Tomar, also known as 'Shooter Dadi' , died of Covid-19 at Meerut medical college on Friday.

Chandro Tomar had contracted the novel coronavirus infection on April 27.

Aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri condoled the demise of Chandro Tomar and said, "An epitome of gender equality & champion of women's rights Smt Chandro Tomar, known as 'Shooter Dadi' by her fans and admirers is no more.The courage with which she challenged patriarchy and took up shooting as a sport will inspire generations to come. Condolences to her family."

India has been seeing over 3 lakh new cases every day for over a week now after the country first topped the 3-lakh mark on April 22 when 314,835 cases tested positive.

India has recorded 3,86,452 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the Union health ministry said on Friday. This is the biggest single-day spike the country saw since the pandemic began. The overall caseload in India has mounted to 1,87,62,976, and the nationwide toll to 2,08,330.

Top five states which registered maximum cases are Maharashtra with 66,159 cases, followed by Kerala with 38,607 cases, Uttar Pradesh with 35,104 cases, Karnataka with 35,024 cases and Delhi with 24,235 cases.
