Rohit Sharma coming in to bat for the second Super Over has become a topic of debate. Sharma swapped himself out in the first Super Over but came out to bat in second.
Rule says if a batsman retires because of injury or other unavoidable cause, he can resume his innings. Batsman is retired out if this does not happen.
If batsman retires for any reason, the batsman can resume but will need the opposing captain's okay. If that does not happen, the batsman is retired out.
In case of tied super over, any batsman dismissed in any previous Super Over shall be ineligible to bat in any subsequent Super Over.
Match officials did not make it clear if Sharma was retired out or retired hurt.
Sharma's return in the second Super Over, as per rules, should've come post Ibrahim Zadran's consent. Afghanistan coach Jonathan Trott said there was no clarity. "Has there ever been two Super Overs?", he asked.
