Venkatesh Prasad said Shikhar Dhawan, Mayank Agarwal, Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane fare better than Rahul when it comes to 'overseas Test record'.
Rahul's sequence of scores in last seven innings read 22, 23, 10, 2, 20, 17 and 1, the last three being his scores in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Rahul was the designated vice-captain for the first two Tests against Australia but no deputy to Rohit Sharma has been named for the last two games.
"I feel the reason why Rahul hasn’t been named the vice-captain is because Shubman Gill will be picked for the next match over KL Rahul,” former India spinner Harbhajan told India Today.
In a recent tweet, Venkatesh Prasad tweeted Rahul's Test career doesn't suggest he's the "second best Test opener in a country with so much batting talent".
'No top order batsman in at least last 20 years of Indian cricket has played 46 tests with an average of 34," tweeted the former India pacer
"SS Das had great potential, so did S Ramesh, both averaged 38+ but did not get beyond 23 Tests. Rahul’s consistent inclusion gives an impression of lack of batting talent in India," tweeted the veteran cricketer
"Guys like Kuldeep Yadav put in man of the match performances and next game are dropped with theories like Horses for courses. In any course, KL is not a horse," tweeted Prasad.
"A few people are thinking I have something personal against Rahul. In fact, I wish well for him and playing him in such form was never going to enhance his confidence," Prasad said.
Venkatesh Prasad recently met PM Modi in Bengaluru along with other veteran cricketers like Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath.
