The domestic equity market was trading lower in the afternoon session today. Sensex lost 347 points to 73,552 and Nifty fell 125 pts to 22,317.
VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services said, "Nifty has turned highly volatile and apprehensive. It might be due to selling by FIIs which touched Rs 5525 crore in the three trading sessions in May so far. But there is nothing unusual about this since FIIs sell when the US bond yields are attractive. Perhaps, the more significant factor might be the apprehensions emanating from the unexpectedly low turnout in the elections, so far. One view is that the definite and smooth victory of the ruling dispensation is a bit uncertain now. The market which has already discounted a BJP/NDA victory is a bit unsure now. Perhaps, this can be the reason for the apprehension in the market and the bulls shedding their aggressive stance."
Shares of CG Power climbed 6.90% to a 52 week high of Rs 584.90 on Tuesday post Q4 earnings. Net profit dipped 10 per cent to Rs 234 crore for March quarter against Rs 260 crore in the year-ago period. Market cap of the firm rose to Rs 86,935 crore.
Shares of Vodafone Idea slipped 5.4% in today. The telecom stock fell 5.46% to Rs 12.13 on Tuesday against the previous close of Rs 12.82 on BSE. Market cap of the telco fell to Rs 83,370 crore. Total 2395.46 lakh shares of the firm changed hands amounting to very high turnover of Rs 298.62 crore.
Shares of YES Bank fell 6% in early deals on Tuesday. YES Bank stock slipped 5.97% to Rs 22.67 today. Market cap of the bank fell to Rs 66,252 crore. Total 457.13 lakh shares of the lender changed hands amounting to a turnover of Rs 106.24 crore.
Shares of Titagarh Rail rose 9% in early deals. Titagarh Rail stock gained 8.63% to Rs 1124.10 today. Market cap of the firm climbed to Rs 14,807 crore. Total 5.36 lakh shares of Titagarh Rail changed hands amounting to a turnover of Rs 59.08 crore.
Waaree Renewable shares rose nearly 5% to Rs 3014 against the previous close of Rs 2871.40. Market cap of the firm rose to Rs 30,297 crore. Total 4.94 lakh shares of Waaree Renewable changed hands amounting to a high turnover of Rs 133.22 crore.
Jio Financial shares fell 4.49% to Rs 353.70 against the previous close of Rs 370.35. Market cap of the firm slipped to Rs 2.27 lakh crore. Total 32.93 lakh shares of Jio Financial changed hands amounting to a turnover of Rs 118.78 crore.
Shares of Marico surged about 10 per cent after the company reported a strong set of performance in the March 2024 quarter. Marico reported a 5 per cent jump on a year-on-year (YoY) basis in its March 2024 quarter consolidated net profit at Rs 320 crore. Shares of Marico surged more than 9.8 per cent to Rs 559.3. Market capitalisation of the FMCG firm surged to Rs 75,000 crore.
