What is BF.7 Variant?

BF.7 is a sub-lineage of the Omicron variant BA.5. It has the strongest infection ability since it is highly transmissible, has a shorter incubation period, and has a higher capacity to cause reinfection or infect even those vaccinated 

High-Level Meeting Concerning Covid-19

India’s Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandviya chaired a high-level meeting on Dec 21 to review the Covid situation in the country. This comes after COVID-19 cases increased dramatically in at least five countries including China

The Health Minister said that it is important to be prepared and remain alert against new and emerging strains of Covid-19, especially in view of the upcoming festive season. He said that Covid is not over yet

Mansukh Mandviya tweeted that in view of the rising cases of Covid-19 in some countries, India has reviewed the situation with experts and officials.

Ramp Up Genome
Sequencing

The Union Health Ministry has also written to states and UTs to ramp up genome sequencing to detect any new variants of Covid-19

Sharp Watch On Covid-19 

The Ministry of Health said that they’ve requested States/UTs to send samples of all Covid-19 positive cases to INSACOG labs to track new variants, if any. One of the Ministry’s tweets said, “Health Ministry and INSACOG are keeping a sharp watch on the situation”

Amid an unabated rise in Covid cases in China, the Indian government is re-introducing Covid-19 testing related measures at airports for international travellers, sources told India Today

India’s Covid-19 active cases stands at 3,490 cases. There are currently 10 different variants of coronavirus in the country, the latest variant being BF.7 with four recorded cases, as per reports
